How Can I Create Value When Life Has Changed in Ways I Can’t Control?

Choice Without Forcing Positivity #

Mindset and self-leadership still matter during grief, but not because you should choose not to grieve. Choosing your mindset does not mean denying your feelings, thinking positively, or convincing yourself that everything happens for a reason. It means choosing how you meet what is happening.

Sometimes the choice that creates the greatest value is to do nothing. Rest. Sit quietly. Hold someone’s hand. Listen or talk. Write. Feel what needs to be felt. Do the next small thing. Celebrate the person you loved and will always love. Say yes when it is right, and sometimes say no.

Focus on This Moment #

One helpful part of The Central Question used in self-leadership work is: How can I create value in this moment?

Not tomorrow. Not next year. Not, “How am I going to live the rest of my life without this person?” Just this moment.

Sometimes the answer is practical: Eat. Sometimes it is emotional: Cry. Sometimes it is simply: Be still.

There is a kind of emotional resilience in allowing the answer to be that small. When life changes in ways you cannot control, you may not need to figure out your whole life. You may only need to choose the next moment.

You do not need to rush healing or force positivity. You can choose presence, allow support, and keep living–one moment at a time.
